Who Am I Becoming? - Meditation (ep. 251)
In this episode: a companion meditation to episode 250 with Lance Diaresco, breath awareness, becoming, connection, contribution with Adam Coelho
Episode Summary
Who are you becoming, beyond what you are accomplishing?
In episode 250, “Define Enough and Design Your Next Chapter,” Lance Diaresco joined me to explore moving from career to calling, defining enough, and creating a life with greater meaning. In this companion episode, I invite you to bring one of the ideas from our conversation into your own experience through a guided meditation.
We begin by settling into the breath and practicing the simple act of noticing, returning, and beginning again. Then we explore the three questions in Lance’s “me, we, world” compass:
- Me: Who am I becoming?
- We: How am I connecting?
- World: How am I contributing?
There is no need to force an answer. This practice offers space to notice what arises, envision how you want to connect and contribute, and feel into the life you are creating with kind, curious awareness.
You can enjoy this meditation on its own or listen to my conversation with Lance in episode 250 for the ideas behind the practice.

Let's jump into today's episode Welcome to this guided meditation. As always, this meditation was recorded as part of the Mindful Fire Legends community. You can join us at mindfulfire.org/join. So let's begin by finding a position that allows you to be alert and relaxed at the same time. Sitting with a tall, straight back, resting your hands wherever's comfortable, and dropping into this moment with three deep breaths in and out. And on your third exhale, just tune in to how you're arriving here in this moment feeling into what it feels like in your body And feeling into what it feels like in your mind right here, right now And now letting go of that and just finding your way to the breath wherever you noticed it most right now. Perhaps at the belly or the chest expanding and contracting, or at the nose or the mouth where the air is coming in and going out Just resting your awareness there, resting in mindfulness observing whatever arises in your experience with a kind, curious awareness And each time you're pulled away, just choosing to come back to the breath and beginning once again Breathing in, I'm aware that I'm breathing in Breathing out, I'm aware that I'm breathing out Again, if your mind drifts off as mine has, just notice what's on your mind with the same kind, curious awareness Oh, thinking's happening And then choose to come back to the breath and begin again Each in breath is a new beginning Each out breath is a chance to let go And again, if you've drifted off into thinking, just choosing to come back and beginning once again at the breath Over and over again, noticing that your mind has wandered and returning once again to this in breath and this out breath And now as we continue in this meditation, I invite you to shift gears into Inviting to mind whatever comes to mind around this question from my conversation with Lance Tiaresco in this week's episode. And so I invite you to consider the question: Who am I becoming? So just inviting that question to mind and kind of relaxing into an open awareness, allowing the ideas to come slowly or quickly, however they arise. Imagining that your mind is like a clear blue sky and you're just observing the clouds. The ideas are like clouds floating by, staying for a moment and moving on. And so once again, contemplating who am I becoming? Who am I becoming? Letting go of that shifting into another question How am I connecting? Again, with curiosity and openness, just seeing what arises, what floats through the sky of your awareness picturing how you're connecting in your current life or in the life that you envision. Whatever arises for you is totally fine Letting go of that. Finally, I invite you to come to the we, invite you to come to the world aspect of Lance's me, we, world compass framework. How am I contributing? How are you contributing in big and small ways in your life right now and in the life you're creating? And as you envision yourself and see yourself contributing, what does that feel like in your body right now? Just tuning in with that same kind, curious awareness and seeing what arises Letting go of that and returning to the breath Just resting your awareness at the breath coming in and going out for a few moments And let us finish with three deep breaths together breathing in Breathing out Again in And hair And once more in And letting it go Ready, ready, opening your eyes and coming back.
